Fire safety experts divide a property into zones. The closer to the house, the stricter the standard.
- Zone 0: the first five feetRemove dead plants, leaves, bark mulch, and stored firewood. Clear debris from under decks and along the foundation.
- Zone 1: five to thirty feetCut dry grass and weeds, remove dead branches, and open up space between shrubs and trees.
- Zone 2: thirty to one hundred feetReduce dry brush on slopes and keep grass cut low. On steep Peninsula hillsides, this is where most of the work is.
- Everything hauled awayWe don't leave piles. All green waste leaves with us the same day.

Pricing depends on how much ground needs clearing, not your lot size, and on how steep it is. The five-foot ember-zone detail adds $245. Haul-away and dump fees are billed at cost, and we tell you the estimate before we start. Above about an acre of brush, we walk the property first and give you a written price.

Common questions about brush and Zone 0
What is Zone 0?
It's the area within five feet of your home. California's Board of Forestry has adopted rules for this zone for homes in very high fire hazard areas, phasing in over the next few years. The idea is simple: nothing that burns easily should sit right next to your house.
Is the Zone 0 rule in effect yet?
The state adopted emergency rules in August 2026, and they phase in over several years. We prepare your ember zone to the new standard now, so you're ahead of it either way.
What happens if my brush isn't cleared?
In very high fire hazard areas, the county inspects each year. If a property fails and the owner doesn't clear it, the county can hire a contractor to do it and bill the cost to the owner's property tax, with inspection and enforcement fees on top. Clearing it yourself, or with us, costs less.
Do you work on steep hillsides?
Yes. Much of the Peninsula is hillside, and slope clearance is a big part of the work. Very steep or large lots are priced after a free walkthrough.
Will you remove my trees?
We limb up trees and remove dead branches we can safely reach from the ground. Large tree removal and climbing work go to a licensed tree specialist, and we're happy to refer one.
Do I need to be home?
Not for a clearance, as long as we can get into the yard. We do ask that you join us for a walkthrough.
How do I pay?
Walkthroughs are free. One-time clearances take a 50% deposit to lock in your date, and the balance is due after the work. The spring and fall plan just needs a card on file, charged after each visit.
